| This is a little outside the Village but not something we have here so I'm putting it up anyway. A friend had called about computer repair so I referred him to CR Computer Repair on Little East Neck Road in West Babylon and he just called to say what good care they took of him. I've mentioned them in the past but it's worth mentioning again. | | |
| Weekend update from the Facebook page.
Condolences to the families of two wonderful Babylonians who passed over the weekend.
Mike Flannery. who was a backbone volunteer in kids sports in the Village for many years and a great guy, passed away on Saturday. Thanks to his son and sister-in-law for posting and giving us a chance to pass along our sympathies.
A couple of days earlier, on Thursday, we lost Albina, long time employee of the Babylon Beacon and cute grandma. Nobody was ever more proud of their children and grandchildren, and she always had a pleasant word for all. | | |
| This afternoon we felt like walking so we went to the Massapequa Mall. In case anybody is interested, it's about 2.5 miles if you start from the Penney's North entrance, and walk two laps on EACH floor between that and the Macy's south entrance. Anyway why this relates to Babylon is that we were pretty shocked by how much of the mall is actually empty. Not just a couple of empty stores. And some of the stores that ARE there are the shops that used to be little kiosks in the middle of the floor. We have some empty shops in the Village, but nothing like the mall. And let's face it, retail is pretty much their reason for existence. These days the small villages at least still have their share of restaurants, offices and other service types to supplement the retailers and of course buy from them. | | |
| Some sad news today as former Village Mayor and Fire Chief Syd Askoff passed away after a long illness. Visitation will be Wednesday, 2-4:30 and 6-9:30. Service at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the United Methodist Church, burial to follow. | | |
| This isn't directly related to Babylon but is something i think we may all be interested in. This coming year will be the year of the web tablet computer. These are basically screens of various sizes with no keyboard and a touch screen. They will variously be used to check email, surf the web, and read books, newspapers and magazines.
